Justin Toebes receives New Year Honours Award
Basketball New Zealand Life Member, Justin Toebes has been awarded a New Year Honours Award for his services to basketball. Justin’s involvement with basketball spans over 40 years. He first played basketball during his final year at Wellington College and has been involved ever since. In 1994 he was voted onto the Wellington Basketball Association (WBA) Executive and from 1995 became WBA President for 10 years. Following this he continued on the WBA Executive as a committee member until 2012.

When the WBA headquarters (Newtown Stadium) burnt down Justin started the campaign for a new stadium. This eventually resulted in the Wellington City Council’s 12 court stadium now known as the ASB Sports Centre. He attended every council and planning meeting until after the stadium was constructed in 2010 and was heavily involved in many aspects of the planning, funding and construction.

Justin has been involved with the Wellington Saints as a part owner and he has extensive governance experience serving on the National Basketball League, Basketball New Zealand and FIBA Oceania Boards. Justin has also served as the Basketball New Zealand President.

Justin continues to give back to the basketball community whether it’s sponsoring numerous basketball activities and players across the region or providing legal support services, all of which are voluntary, humbly and willingly offered for the benefit of our game and its people.

We congratulate Justin on his achievement and thank him for his continued support of the game. For more on Justin’s New Year Honours Award please click here.
