The Wellington Saints have started the season 2-0 with an 89-74 road win over the Indigo Hawks.
Last years’ MVP Torrey Craig led the Saints with 26 points and 13 rebounds, and point guard Shea Ili 19 points and five rebounds for Wellington.
It was the first game of the season for the Hawks, who came out firing, leading 9-2 halfway through the first quarter. But Wellington would outscore the home-side 19-6 to end the period up 21-15.
From then on it would be all Wellington as they extended their lead to as much as 25. The home side making a late rally to make the score-line more respectable.
Hawks import Chris Porter scored a team high 21 points, and after a year off from the NBL, Matt Te Huna added 13.
Wellington stand at the top of the table with the two wins and will have a bye next week.
The Hawks will host the 1-1 Mike Pero Nelson Giants next Sunday.
