Junior Tall Blacks fall to Mali at U19 World Cup

The Junior Tall Blacks have fallen at the Round of 16 at the U19 World Cup, going down 77-62 to Mali.

The Kiwis couldn’t carry over the momentum from their stunning victory over World No. 2 Lithuania yesterday.

Sam Mennenga and James Moors were the standout performers for New Zealand, each contributing seven rebounds and adding 13 and 12 points respectively.

Mali dominated proceedings though, taking a five point lead after the first quarter and never relinquishing it.

Despite their tournament finishing early, the Junior Tall Blacks can still hold their heads high after a strong win over Senegal and their impressive win over Lithuania, which showed they can match it with some of the world’s best young players.

The World Cup isn’t over for New Zealand either, they could still finish as high as ninth with lower placing matches still to come on Friday.
