BBNZ Puts Out Call For U19 National Team Coaches

Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) is now seeking applicants for key coaching positions within the Under 19 Men and Women National Teams, for the upcoming 2023-2025 cycle.

The positions available are:

  • NZ U19 Women Head Coach
  • NZ U19 Men Head Coach
  • NZ U19 Women Assistant Coaches (x2)
  • NZ U19 Men Assistant Coaches (x2).

The Head Coach of their respective team is charged with leading and implementing a training and performance programme for the 2023-2025 U19 cycle, in preparation for the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup. They will lead and alongside with the assistant coaches, contribute to an athlete development pathway that inspires and is manageable and sustainable.

The term of appointment for both teams is from 20 December 2022 through 1 September 2025. The cycle is a three-year programme working with athletes (born 2006 and 2007) and progression is subject to the following key performance indicators:

  • Top two placing at the 2023 FIBA U17 Oceania Championships
  • Top four placing at the 2024 FIBA U18 Asian Championships
  • Top 10 Placing at the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup.

Coaches will be required to lead the delivery of all performance elements at regional and national selection camps, in line with Basketball New Zealand’s style of play philosophy.

There is also a requirement to attend other events for talent identification purposes, i.e., national age group tournaments and national league games.
