BBNZ Rolls Out New Digital Coaching Tool

Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) are proud to partner with a new world-leading digital tool designed to support volunteer coaches across the country.

Over the next three weeks, basketball coaches will have full access to a new coaching app, CoachMate, to explore, test, and provide feedback to BBNZ before the app is launched to the general public later in June.

Data from BBNZ’s ‘Hoops in Schools’ survey from 2020 shows that basketball relies heavily on parents and teachers to coach and develop players but few are trained or resourced to do the job.

CoachMate has enabled the conversion of analogue coaching resources into dynamic, personalised and easy-to-use coaching programmes available on the app.

The ‘Kiwi Hoops’ and ‘Girls Got Game’ programmes will feature more than 50 ready-made practice plans and 30 unique activities – each with suggestions for coaches to adapt them to be easier, harder, or different – as well as articles, mini lessons, quick tips so coaches have resources to support not only with what to coach, but also how to coach.

Ahead of its public launch, BBNZ are now calling for volunteer coaches across Aotearoa to download the app, use it and provide any feedback to the organisation.

The CoachMate app can be downloaded via Google Play or the Apple Store onto any smartphone.
