This year, the U23 will be a men’s competition while the Women’s D-League is played at the same time. All information is relevant to both tournaments, however there may be specific information for each tournament. This will be clearly written. Please read all information carefully and if you have any questions, please email tournaments@nz.basketball.
While working through the logistics of the revamped women’s league, D-League is still on the radar. Over the past two years, the D-League tournament was run alongside the women’s league and formatted to suit a set number of teams. This tournament will remain largely the same with some differences.
- The tournament will be open to affiliated women’s teams with no restriction placed on the number of entries.
- By opening tournament up to more teams, an increase to the number of courts is required. This tournament will now run alongside the men’s U23 Nationals and will replace the women’s U23 competition.
- Both tournaments will be played on August 17-20 at Eventfinda Stadium. Please note that these are new dates for the U23 tournament – download the updated BBNZ tournaments calendar: BBNZ Tournaments Calendar 2022.
- Some of the rules that were in place for D-League will be relaxed to enable more teams to play.
- Leagues and Tournaments will be working closely together to ensure the needs of both tournaments are met.
- As we navigate through this COVID-19 environment, at present, NZ is currently in the CPF red traffic light system. As changes are made to the CPF and restrictions are hopefully reduced, we will need to adapt, and changes may need to make to the tournaments.
- The majority of tournament rules and regulations will be applied to the women’s D-League tournament in 2022, with some regulations relaxed to fit within a League environment:
- the tournaments entry fee will apply.
- The minimum age limit as per tournaments will apply, but there will be no maximum age limit.
- Associations can use players from other zones however a transfer/clearance may be required.
- Tournament rules regarding a maximum number of players on a roster will apply.
- Associations are to register their D-League team(s) through Game Day.
The draw will be released on approximately July 20.
All other competition information will be uploaded in due course.
The programme will be released towards the end of July once all team rosters and the draw have been completed.
Rosters will be uploaded here after team entries close.
Health and safety documents will be uploaded closer to the time of the tournament
All livestream information will be posted here prior to the tournament.
