FIBA Women’s Asia Cup and Men’s World Cup Free-To-Air for Kiwis

Thanks to Spark Sport and TVNZ, a pair of pinnacle basketball events will be shown free-to-air for New Zealand sports fans this year.

The FIBA Women’s Asia Cup will see the Tall Ferns competing for the Asia Cup title – and the chance to progress to a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics – from 26 June to 2 July in Sydney. The Group Phase and classification rounds of the tournament will be shown live on Spark Sport, who have announced this week that all content on its platform can be viewed for free until end of month. Following 30 June, the Women’s Asia Cup semi-finals and finals will be shown free-to-air on TVNZ.

The FIBA Men’s World Cup has the Tall Blacks travelling to the Philippines from 25 August – 10 September to compete on basketball’s brightest stage, battling against 31 other teams for the Naismith Trophy. TVNZ has today announced that all Tall Blacks World Cup games – as well as the majority of FIBA Men’s World Cup games being played – will be screened free-to-air on its channels for New Zealanders.

Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) Chief Executive, Dillon Boucher says that today’s announcement is a win for basketball fans across Aotearoa.

“We know the eyes of the country will be upon our Tall Ferns and Tall Blacks as they compete in these pinnacle events, and with them now free-to-air it removes a barrier and allows all Kiwis to watch them in action,” says Boucher.

“I strongly encourage our fans to tune in and support our national men’s and women’s teams in action, as they compete on basketball’s biggest stage – against the best teams in the world.”
