Take a shot at coaching

Coaching basketball isn’t about knowing everything; it’s about showing up. Our coaches play a vital role in helping tamariki and rangatahi have fun, feel supported, and stay connected to the game. When coaching feels fun, easy and rewarding, players are more likely to keep playing, and that matters.

Many young people step away from organised sport by their early teens, often because their experience stops feeling positive. The good news? Great coaching makes a difference to keep tamariki and rangatahi in the game.

Most tamariki and rangatahi aren’t motivated by winning alone. They stay involved when they feel confident, included, and connected. When coaching is done well, basketball can:

  • Improve wellbeing
  • Build confidence and resilience
  • Strengthen belonging and connection
  • Bring whānau and communities closer together

All they need to get started is you.
