At a Glance | March Madness #14

It proved to be Super Saturday in the States as all four Kiwis in action recorded crucial wins.

Thomas Webley and Tobias Cameron have clipped tickets for the NCAA Tournament, Akienne-Tera Reed is into a conference final and William Heather has progressed to the last 32 of the NCAA Division II Championship.

Thomas Webley and Hartford University Hawks are headed to the Big Dance after beating University of Massachusetts Lowell 64-50 in the America East Conference Final.

Webley, the leading scorer at the 2019 Secondary Schools National Championship when playing for Cashmere High School, had a brace of rebounds in 8 minutes in the win.

It was a historic win for the Hawks as they won their first ever America East title and book a first visit to the NCAA Championship.

Joining Webley at college basketball’s showpiece event will be Tobias Cameron.

His Abilene Christian University team dominated Nicholls University winning 79-45 with the former Junior Tall Black registering 5 points (2/3FG), 2 rebounds and a block. For ACU it was back to back Southland Conference titles.

Fair to say Tall Blacks Head Coach Pero Cameron, father of Tobias, will be a proud dad.

A strong defensive stance in the final quarter from Virginia Commonwealth helped them topple #1 Dayton in the semi-final of the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship.

VCU kept Dayton to just 8 points in the fourth stanza to close out a 56-50 victory. Akienne-Tera Reed was one of three Rams in double figures with 12 points (5/9 FG) as well as 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Will Heather and Dallas Baptist University beat Southern Arkansas 83-61 in the first round of the NCAA Division II National Championship.

Heather made 5 from 6 from the field on his way to 12 points and also tallied 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a block.

He and Reed will be back in action tomorrow while Cameron and Webley will get a few days off to polish their dancing shoes.
