Aon Under 15 Nationals tip off tomorrow

The 2021 Aon Under 15 National Championships begin tomorrow 21 July at the Pulman Arena, Takanini, South Auckland.

Waikato and Wellington will be looking to repeat their successes of last year – Waikato claimed the 2020 boys’ title and Wellington the girls’ championship.

The 2020 girls’ grand-final was a repeat of the 2019 Championship game, although on that occasion Waikato held the trophy aloft.

The Waikato girls’ record in this tournament is superb having only missed the final twice (2012 and 2018) in the past 10 years. In that time, they have been champions three times and runners-up on five occasions.

Other winners in that 10-year span have been Wellington/Capital (twice), Harbour (twice), Counties, Waitakere West and Rotorua.

Waikato have won the boys’ tournament for the past two years although Waitakere West have claimed the title on most occasions in the past decade claiming three championships.

Other winners in that time have been Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Hibiscus Coast, Palmerston North and Harbour.

If Waikato Boys are to repeat their 2020 success, they will have to see off a number of challengers including Waitakere West, Hawke’s Bay, Northland, Harbour and Otago.
