At a Glance | March Madness #9

In the latest March Madness roundup there are three conference semi-finals to report on.

Kaylee Smiler and Tegan Graham combined to shoot 7 from 10 from the field, including 5 makes from 7 attempts from beyond the arc, to help propel Brigham Young University (BYU) to a convincing 85-55 West Coast Conference semi-final win over San Francisco.

Tegan tallied 14 points plus a pair of steals while Kaylee contributed 5 points and some lockdown defence. Now just one win away from an NCAA National Championship berth BYU will take on Gonzaga University in tomorrow’s grand-final. The two teams met twice in the regular season with each team winning their home fixture.

Talking of Gonzaga, St Mary’s College Gaels had the daunting prospect of taking on Gonzaga in the West Coast Conference men’s semi-final. Dan Fotu and Quinn Clinton took on the number one ranked NCAA Division I men’s basketball team that boasted a 24-0 record.

Gonzaga underlined their #1 status by comfortably beating St Mary’s 78-55. Dan scored 5 points and claimed 3 rebounds while Quinn pulled down a single rebound.

Also bowing out in semi-final play, in a contest that went down to the wire, were Kruz Perrott-Hunt and University of South Dakota Coyotes.

Kruz played all but one minute scoring 14 points (4/5 3PG, 2/2FT), dishing 3 assists and snaring 3 boards but the Coyotes went down 79-75 to North Dakota State in the Summit League semis.

Later in the week we will update the progress of Yuat Alok (Coppin State University), Flynn Cameron and Angus McWilliam (University of California Riverside), Tobias Cameron (Abilene Christian University), James Moors (Colorado State University), Anzac Rissetto (University of North Carolina Charlotte), Kendell Heremaia (Fordham University) and Akienne-Tera Reed (Virginia Commonwealth University).

In addition Thomas Webley and Hartford University Hawks are already through to the America East Conference Final on Saturday.
