After suffering a couple of losses Melbourne Boomers got back to winning ways in the Australian Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) thrashing Adelaide Lightning 91-51.
All five Tall Ferns in the Boomers line-up featured led by Ash Karaitiana, promoted to the starting five she made 9 points on 4/8 shooting. Penina Davidson and Kalani Purcell scored 8 points apiece, Toni Farnworth scored a couple with only Stella Beck not adding points although the Wellingtonian did register a brace of rebounds and assists. The Boomers are now third on the WNBL ladder with a 4-2 record.
Rooted at the bottom of the table are Bendigo Spirit who have lost all six games to date. In their latest game they were burnt 99-51 by Townsville Fire. Chev Paalvast scored a couple of points for the Spirit whilst Mary Goulding, in her first season in the WNBL, was equal top scorer for the Spirit with 10 points (4/6FG) and also added 3 steals and 3 rebounds.
In Italy Venezia went down 86-72 at Milan despite Isaac Fotu scoring a season high 25 points (4/6 3PG). In his last six outings for Venezia the Tall Blacks forward has scored 106 points at an impressive average of 17.7 points per game.
