Basketball New Zealand Welcomes New Chief Executive

The Board of Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) is excited to announce that Belinda Edwards has accepted the role of Chief Executive of BBNZ. Belinda becomes the first female to lead the organisation in its history.

Belinda has been Acting Chief Executive since May this year, and this experience means she is able to hit the ground running with an established team and strong stakeholder relationships. Belinda brings a wealth of experience and leadership that will help BBNZ deliver its strategic vision and accelerate progress toward shared goals.

Rob Gold, Chair of the Board, said:

“Belinda has already shown exceptional leadership as Acting Chief Executive and previously as Chief Operating Officer. While we were impressed with her performance, we undertook a rigorous recruitment process to ensure we secured the best candidate for this important role. The position attracted more than 80 applicants, including international candidates, which reflects how highly regarded this role is within the sporting sector.

Belinda stood out for her quiet ambition, deep knowledge of our organisation, and clear vision for the future. She knows our people and stakeholders, and that experience means she can hit the ground running. We are confident in her ability to build on our legacy and lead BBNZ forward to achieve our strategic goals and create lasting success for basketball in Aotearoa.”

Rob highlighted Belinda’s leadership and vision for the future, a sentiment Belinda echoed:

“I’m deeply honoured to lead BBNZ at such an exciting time for our sport. The momentum we’ve built is just the beginning and together, we’re going to elevate basketball across Aotearoa like never before. Our focus remains firmly on delivering a bold strategic vision, deepening stakeholder engagement, and creating sustainable success that benefits every level of the basketball ecosystem, from grassroots to elite.”

This appointment reinforces Basketball New Zealand’s commitment to building strong foundations and delivering impact across the basketball community in Aotearoa, ensuring hoops in the heart of every community.
