BBNZ To Seek New Board Member Following Zino’s Departure

After nearly six years serving on the Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) Board, Michael Zino has this week announced his departure.

An experienced director and senior executive, Zino first joined the BBNZ Board in 2017 with a focus on governance and strategy; in 2021 he was re-appointed for a second, shortened term which was due to expire in May 2023.  As a BBNZ alumni he has also coached and played basketball for over 40 seasons – including being named as a Tall Black in 1975.

BBNZ Chair, Rob Gold says that Zino has played an important governance role for the organisation during his time on the Board.

“We thank Michael for his contribution to the work of Basketball New Zealand across Aotearoa over the past five plus years; he has given us valuable insight and direction from a commercial and business perspective,” says Gold. In particular Michael led the Board response to the Structure Review for the past 12 months, something that has taken considerable time and effort.”

“Basketball has continued to explode in terms of popularity and participation in this country over the past few years, and Michael can be proud of the role he has helped play in this growth. We wish him all the best with his future endeavours and look forward to finding his board replacement in due course.”

An official advertisement for the vacant BBNZ Board position will be available in the coming weeks.  If you would like more information in the interim, please contact the BBNZ Board at bbnzboard@nz.basketball
