The Carolyn Grey Award for Female Coach of the Year for 2023 goes to Jody Cameron.
After losing the GJ Gardner Homes Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa Grand Final to Tokomoana Queens in the inaugural League in 2022 Jody and the Northern Kāhu went one better in 2023 with a 98-72 Grand Final win against the Queens in Porirua. The 11-3 campaign by the Kāhu in 2023 matched their win-loss record of 2022. The overall record of 22-6 means Jody boasts a 79 % success rate over the first two seasons of Tauihi.
In addition to her club commitments Jody is Assistant Coach to the Tall Ferns, a position she has held since 2018. The Tall Ferns undertook a tour of Europe in June with Jody assuming the Head Coach role due to the unavailability of Guy Molloy. The Tall Ferns then went on to enjoy a successful Asia Cup campaign – a fourth place finish, their best ever at the champs, capturing an Olympic Qualifying Tournament place.
