The Female Player of the Year Award for 2023, goes to Tera Reed.
Tera made her mark both domestically and on the international stage in 2023. She was a key player for the Northern Kāhu as they clinched last season’s Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa title – Tera averaging 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
That was followed by a rookie season in the Australian WNBL with the Melbourne Boomers. The Boomers reached the semi-finals with Tera averaging 8 points and 4 rebounds per outing – her 41.4% 3-point shooting the best on the team. Tera’s importance to the team was solidified by her nomination for the WNBL 6th Woman of the Year award.
Tera was also a standout for the national senior team at the FIBA Asia Cup in Sydney, in June last year, where the Tall Ferns finished 4th – their best ever finish at the Asia champs. Tera scored 23 points against the Philippines and averaged 9 points and 6 rebounds at the tournament.
Guy Molloy, Tall Ferns Head Coach at the tournament, had this to say about Tera:
“Tera had a tremendous 2023 with both her first season in the Australian WNBL and becoming a regular starter and an important player for the Tall Ferns. Her versatility to take defenders off the dribble, yet be an exceptional 3-point shooter, provided the Tall Ferns with a skill set we’ve really been lacking.”
Tera Reed is deservedly named the Female Player of the Year for 2023. Accepting this award on her behalf is her dad, Oceen Reed.
