A Long service Award is to be bestowed on Jill Bolger.
Recognised as the face and voice of the Southland Sharks Jill Bolger is still very much involved in the game at grass roots level. Jill has been involved in refereeing in the Southland region for over 40 years. Whether it be A grade or school competitions Jill has been actively mentoring senior and junior referees during this time. This has involved the running of theory classes and on-court training, giving each referee both verbal and written feedback after the game.
Jill’s dedication to upskilling Southland referees is second to none. Her ability to communicate with all age groups is what makes her such an outstanding educator. Jill has also made herself available as a BBNZ referee educator attending a number of age group tournaments, imparting her extensive knowledge of the game.
Her citation reads:
Jill is a dedicated to the Southland Basketball community. She can always be found either on court refereeing, helping other referees, on the phone, on her computer or in a meeting doing all she can to make basketball in Southland, at any level and situation, the best it can be. Jill is well respected in Southland as an innovator, administrator and mother figure to many that either stay or transit thorough the region. Her love of the game, stickability and perseverance are some of her most notable attributes and are in many ways reflective of her deserved recognition.
