Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) is thrilled to announce its new partnership with Burger King as the organisation’s official Quick Service Restaurant.
The three-year deal sees the popular restaurant chain on board as a major partner of the New Zealand Senior National Teams, the Tall Blacks and 2degrees Tall Ferns – with the icon Burger King logo appearing on the front of the team’s playing shorts.
The 2degrees Tall Ferns have already showcased the Burger King brand at the recent FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in China; while the Tall Blacks are set to debut the logo on Thursday, when they face Chinese Taipei in their first game of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
And to celebrate this partnership with Kiwi fans, Burger King will be giving away a stack of Burger King vouchers at the Tall Black’s game this Sunday 25 February; when the Kiwis take on Hong Kong at Auckland’s Eventfinda Stadium from 4.30pm.
In addition to their presence on the international stage, Burger King will also be involved with basketball at the grassroots level. This includes being the presenting partner of the upcoming Burger King ‘Hooper Highlights’ digital campaign, which will see the New Zealand playing community rewarded with prizes – and a chance to win a shoutout from national team players – when they submit their own basketball highlights.
Burger King General Manager, Bernard Oosthuizen says he is “thrilled to kickstart this journey as a partner of BBNZ, fostering a connection with fans and communities nationwide.”
“At Burger King, we believe in the power of sports to inspire and bring people together, which is why we’re committed to supporting basketball at all levels, from the national stage to grassroots initiatives like the Hooper Highlights digital campaign. Our three-year partnership emphasizes local grassroots involvement, ensuring an ongoing engagement with communities, connecting with customers everywhere through our shared love for the game.”
BBNZ Chief Executive, Dillon Boucher says that 2024 is a particularly exciting time for Burger King to commence their partnership with New Zealand’s fastest-growing sporting code.
“Basketball participation in Aotearoa continues to increase year on year, and the national teams have a busy international schedule for 2024 – with more games than ever available for Kiwis to watch,” says Boucher.
“Having a partner at the level of Burger King is important for us, not just with our national teams but with their ability to excite and engage the grassroots audience too; their commitment and support will help the game to grow and be successful.”
Boucher says that the Burger King brand is familiar to him from his Tall Blacks playing days.
“Having Burger King on our national team uniform, for me it definitely brings back memories of our Tall Blacks run at the 2002 FIBA World Champs in Indianapolis. We appreciated that level of support then, and we love having them back in the fold again this year.”
