Basketball New Zealand and Aktive (Auckland Sport and Recreation) have developed three online interactive learning modules focussing on Aktive’s ‘Good Sports’ coaching philosophy and principles. The Good Sports modules are part of the theory component for both the Kiwi Hoops Introductory Coach Course and BBNZ Community Coach Course (for those that completed Kiwi Hoops at an earlier date) and must be completed by all participants completing these courses.
The Good Sports Modules are:
1. Introduction to Good Sports
2. Planning and Delivery
3. Good Sports and Community
Basketball New Zealand believe that completing the Good Sports modules will enable the key adult influencers; parents, coaches, caregivers and teachers to have the necessary skills to be able to create a positive and meaningful sporting experience for our kiwi tamariki.
To access the course please click here. Remember you’ll need to have completed a user account with SportTutor before you can start. To find the course click on Search Learning → Basketball New Zealand. All online courses are free to complete.
What is Good Sports?
Good Sports aims to create positive sporting experiences for Kiwi kids by supporting and educating the key adult influencers in children’s sport: parents, caregivers, coaches, teachers and sport administrators.
We all know sport can be a vehicle to help children to be active, healthy and learn life skills; critical in the success of these things happening, is the quality of support that adults provide children in sport.
Good Sports advocates for adult behaviours and attitudes in children’s sport to always fall under a Climate of Development. Whether you are a parent, caregiver, coach, teacher and/or sport administrator involved in children’s sport, being under a Climate of Development ensures children have the best chance of having positive sporting experiences and ultimately growing a lifelong love with basketball.
The following online modules form part of the Community Coach Level curriculum. These will need to be completed by all coaches completing this course. The modules include Coaching Safety Net, Getting Started in Coaching and Thriving Under Fire. Please click on one of the courses below to get started.
The following online modules are for coaching disabled athletes no matter whether you are just starting out or want to grow your skills. LevelUp is for coaches to gain confidence, knowledge, and capability to coach disabled athletes. The modules are available on the Sport NZ learning platform, Sport Tutor. That means you can learn in your own time, at your own pace. Please click on one of the courses below to get started.
