Basketball New Zealand is pleased to announce that Sky Sport will be screening the Grand Finals of the Schick Championships in Palmerston North next week.
The Schick Championships is the National Secondary Schools tournament for basketball which will see 71 teams and over 800 players battle it out to be crowned the country’s best. The event will run from Monday 30 Septmeber through to Saturday 5 October, in Palmerston North.
The Sky coverage will be in addition to Basketball New Zealand’s live streaming of the event, with four games a day live streamed on the @BasketballNZ Facebook page and the nz.basketball/TV webpage.
Basketball New Zealand Chief Executive Ian Potter says this continues what has been a great lift in basketball on New Zealand screens thanks to Sky Sport.
“We’ve been singing Sky’s praises a lot lately and now they’ve thrown their backing behind our biggest New Zealand basketball tournament in the Schick Champs.
“Year after the year, the finals of this event tends to produce compelling and down to the wire games. To have it live on New Zealand television is brilliant. It again lifts the standard of this event and offers it to a much more diverse and wider audience, taking it from the basketball centric fan to the wider New Zealand sports fan.”
Sky Sport commentator Casey Frank will be in attendance on Saturday and commentating each of the finals.
Sky Head of Sport Production Brian Hitchcock says Sky is proud to be playing a part in the coverage of one of the country’s fastest-growing sports.
“We’re extremely proud to continue our support of Basketball in New Zealand by showing the finals from the Schick Championship LIVE on Sky Sport.
“It will be great for Kiwi basketball fans to see the best young players, some of which will hopefully become future Tall Blacks and Tall Ferns.”
