Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) are pleased to announce that Jean Arlove has accepted the position of appointed Board Member.
Jean will join the Basketball New Zealand Board next month, following BBNZ’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday 5 May in Wellington.
With over 30 year’s experience as a CFO and COO in senior finance, operational and governance roles, Jean has a proven track record of delivering profitability, growth, and efficiency for organisations across Australasia. Based in Wanaka, Jean is a fully qualified CPA with a passion for innovation and technology; his other passion is for basketball.
Jean says that he is thrilled at the opportunity to help BBNZ continue to deliver quality basketball experiences for Kiwis – from grassroots up to high performance.
“As a lifelong basketball player, I am thrilled to join the Board of Basketball New Zealand and contribute to the growth and development of a sport that’s been a significant part of my life since I was eight years old,” says Jean.
“Following in the footsteps of my father, who introduced me to the game, I have seen first-hand the positive impact that basketball can have on individuals and communities. Being part of BBNZ will allow me to use all my 30+ years of financial and marketing expertise to add to an already very successful National Sporting Organisation (NSO).
“I’m really fortunate I’m able to do this for the sport I fell in love with as a kid.”
Jean says that he has seen first-hand how basketball can be a powerful force in building a stronger, happier community across Aotearoa.
“Basketball is a sport that brings people together, regardless of their background or identity. I believe that every young person should have the opportunity to develop their skills and pursue their passion for basketball, and I will work to ensure that basketball in New Zealand has a strong talent pipeline, from grassroots to high performance.
“I will also aim to help promote initiatives that support the participation and leadership of underrepresented groups, including women, Māori, and Pacific Islanders.”
Jean will also lend his financial and operational experience into helping BBNZ expand its networks of businesses and organisations, which will help the NSO to resource even more basketball initiatives and programmes where demand is highest.
“Partnerships are essential to the growth and development of basketball in New Zealand. I hope to use my networks to build partnerships with organisations and stakeholders that share our vision for the sport; this includes partnerships with schools, community organisations, and international partners.”
