Day 1 of the 3×3 Trans-Tasman Series is done and dusted, with an intense and physical four games played in an 8-game series for both the men’s and women’s national teams.
The 3×3 Tall Blacks won game 1 against the Gangurrus in dramatic fashion, thanks to a buzzer-beating layup by Denhym Brooke, before falling 18-21 in the second game. The series in now level at 1-1 with 6 games remaining.
The 3×3 Tall Ferns won both their games against the Gangurrus to go up 2-0 after the first day; the first game a solid 15-10 victory, while the second game saw Lauryn Hippolite explode for her 11pts in a 17-14 NZ win.

Game 1 – NZL 21, AUS 20
The 3×3 Tall Blacks have taken the first game of the 3×3 Trans-Tasman series in entertaining fashion, with Denhym Brooke making a buzzer-beating layup for the 21-20 win! In a physical and fast-paced game, the 3×3 Tall Blacks triumphed behind 8pts & 3reb from Dom Kelman-Poto, who hit 6/7 on the night. Nikau McCullough added 6pts & 4reb, Chris McIntosh 5pts & 4reb, with Brooke adding 2. Dan Trist led the Australian Gangurrus with 7pts & 5reb, James O’Donnell scored 5 while Jacob Furphy and Josh Dent added 4 apiece.

Game 2 – NZL 18, AUS 21
In a bruising encounter, the Australian Gangurrus have won 21-18 in game 2 of the 3×3 Trans-Tasman Series – evening the series at 1-all. Youngsters Josh Dent, James O’Donnell and Dan Trist all scored 6pts apiece for Australia, while Jacob Furphy added 3pts & 5reb. The Aussies sank all 6 free throws and shot 12-21 from the field overall. The 3×3 Tall Blacks were led by Nikau McCullough’s 7pts; Dom Kelman-Poto again dominant with his 6pts & 4reb. Taki Fahrensohn added 5pts & 4reb in his first action, while Chris McIntosh chipped in with 5reb.

Game 1 – NZL 15, AUS 10
The 3×3 Tall Ferns have emerged victorious in their first game against the Australian Gangurrus, taking the 15-10 win in a scrappy and foul-heavy clash. New Zealand was led by 5pts from Olivia O’Neill, while Lauryn Hippolite tallied 4pts & 5reb. Kendell Heremaia added 4pts while Chevannah Paalvast scored 2pts & 6reb. For Australia, Bride Hope-Kennedy scored 4pts, Jacqui Trotto 3 and Teyla Evans 2. Mikhaela Cann registered 1pt, 7reb and a pair of blocks.

The 3×3 Tall Ferns are now up 2-0 over the Australian Gangurrus, following their 17-14 win in Game 2. Lauryn Hippolite was dominant for NZ with 11pts, while Chevannah Paalvast added 4pts & 7reb; Azure Anderson with 2pts & 4reb in her first action. Bride Hope-Kennedy scored 6pts for the Gangurrus, while Mikhaela Cann has 3 & 6 and Jacqui Trotto 3 & 7. Teyla Evans scored 2pts & 5reb.
