We believe basketball should be a place where everyone feels safe, valued, and treated fairly. Integrity matters because everyone deserves to participate in our game with confidence, knowing they are protected, respected and supported at every level.
Our commitment to integrity underpins a positive basketball culture, where players, coaches, officials, volunteers, whānau, staff, and fans can not only belong, but thrive. It reflects our values of Hono (connection), Tika (doing what is right), and Mana (respect), ensuring everyone involved in our game can participate in an environment that is safe, trustworthy, and grounded in fairness.
Integrity is essential to ensuring basketball is safe, fair, and trusted at every level of the game. It guides how we protect people, uphold fair play, and respond when concerns are raised. At BBNZ, integrity exists to support participation, safeguard wellbeing, and ensure decisions and behaviours reflect the values of our sport.
Protecting tamariki, rangatahi, and adults from harm by promoting safe environments, preventing abuse, and responding appropriately and quickly to safeguarding concerns.

Protecting the integrity of the game by preventing match-fixing, betting-related manipulation, and any actions that undermine fair and honest competition.
BBNZ has partnered with Basketball Australia’s (BA) Integrity Unit to enhance our capability across safeguarding, complaints management, gambling and match‑fixing prevention, education, and integrity policy support. This partnership enables us to access experienced specialists and robust infrastructure while we continue to build and tailor Aotearoa‑specific resources for our community.
It also strengthens our ability to uphold the BBNZ Code of Conduct, which describes prohibited behaviours like abuse and violence, and ensures we have consistent, independent processes for behaviour, safeguarding, and integrity concerns.
Everyone involved in basketball has a role to play in keeping our game safe. If you have information that a child or young person has been harmed or is at risk of harm or abuse it’s important to take action.
There are several ways you can do this:
The Sport Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui (the Commission) is a free, confidential, and neutral service, who help solve complaints in sport and recreation. Raising issues early makes them easier to fix and reduces harm.
The Commission is culturally responsive and offer tikanga-based support. They also help children and young people take part in decisions that affect them.

The situation needs to be related in some way to sport and recreation. The Commission expects you would have followed the steps outlined above in reporting a breach or concern to the appropriate contacts.
