We are now halfway through the 16-game slate for the 3×3 Trans-Tasman Series, which sees the 3×3 Tall Blacks and 3×3 Tall Ferns battling the Australian Gangurrus for the first time on New Zealand soil.
After dropping their first game of the night 7-11, the 3×3 Tall Ferns rebounding well in their second meeting; with a 15-10 victory to move to 3-1 in the women’s series.
Meanwhile the 3×3 Tall Blacks have earned solid wins in both their games tonight, thanks to a pair of strong efforts from 3×3 newcomer Taki Fahrensohn and solid shooting from McCullough. This also puts the Kiwi men up 3-1 in this series, with 4 more grueling games left to play.
Women’s Series – Day 2 Recaps
Game 3 – NZL 7, AUS 11
The Australian Gangurrus have picked up their first win of the 3×3 Trans-Tasman Series, with a 11-7 win over the 3×3 Tall Ferns tonight. Both teams struggled to score in this game, with the Kiwis shooting 4/27 from the field and the Aussies going 7/24. Australia was led by Bride Kennedy-Hopoate’s 4pts & 7reb, while Teyla Evans scored 4, Jacqui Trotto 2 and Mikhaela Cann added 1; the Aussies all but ignoring the outside shot in favour of strong scores inside the painted area. The 3×3 Tall Ferns saw Kendell Heremaia tally 3pts, Olivia O’Neill 2pts & 7reb, while Lauryn Hippolite and Chevannah Paalvast each registered 1pt & 4reb.

Game 4 – NZL 15, AUS 10
The 3×3 Tall Ferns have beaten the Australian Gangurrus 15-10 in the fourth game of the 3×3 Trans-Tasman series, building a strong 3-1 lead midway through the competition. Chevannah Paalvast led all scores with 6pts & 5reb, while Kendell Heremaia scored 5pts & hauled down 6reb – part of a 22-15 Kiwi advantage on the boards. Lauryn Hippolite added 3 and Azure Anderson chipped in with 1pt & 6reb. Bride Kennedy-Hopoate scored 4pts for the Gangurrus, while Teyla Evans had 3; Jacqui Trotto with 2pts, 5reb and 4 blocks, Mikhaela Cann adding 1.

Men’s Series – Day 2 Recaps
Game 3 – NZL 21, AUS 17
The 3×3 Tall Blacks have beaten the Aussies 21-17 in their third game of the 3×3 Trans-Tasman series in Invercargill, thanks to a strong shooting effort. Taki Fahrensohn was incredible in this one, scoring 13pts and 5reb while knocking down 4/9 from outside the arc. Nikau McCullough and Dom Kelman-Poto both scored 3pts and Denhym Brooke added 2, as the Kiwis outrebounded the Aussies 19-12. The Gangurrus saw Josh Dent lead with 6pts, while Dan Trist and Jacob Furphy added 4pts apiece; James O’Donnell with 1.

Game 4 – NZL 21, AUS 9
The 3×3 Tall Blacks have racked up a resounding victory in Game 4, winning 21-9 on the strength of their outside shooting – sinking 6/7 from outside the arc – to go up 3-1 in the eight game series. Nikau McCullough led with 9pts, shooting 3/3 from downtown while Taki Fahrensohn continued his strong play with 7pts, 4reb and 3/3 outside shooting. Dom Kelman-Poto added 5pts & 3reb, Chris McIntosh with 3reb and 2 key assists. Jacob Furphy led with 3pts & 5reb for the Gangurrus, while James O’Donnell scored 3, Josh Dent 2 and Dan Trist 1; the Aussies held to just 1/7 shooting from outside the arc.
