New Zealand’s latest lockdown may have stopped what happens on the court, but this doesn’t mean that there aren’t any opportunities for your basketball IQ to grow!
Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) would like to encourage the coaches, volunteers, administrators, and association board members during this lockdown period to jump on our online portal and complete some of our modules.
Is coaching your thing? We’ve got you covered! Our resources will provide you with the generic principles of coaching with topics ranging from coaching philosophy to what does good sports look like for your participants.
Or, if refereeing seems like you’re keener on, we suggest taking up the Level 1 Referee online course. It’s for anyone just starting out as a basketball referee, with little or no experience.
It acts as the entry point into the referee development pathway taking a referee from community basketball at association and school level through to the National Basketball League and FIBA international events.
So far, 367 people have enrolled in the online course since it was launched and 133 have passed it. The next stages after both the coaching and officiating online courses are practical workshops run locally at your association. BBNZ will advise when those workshops will resume after lockdown.
We also have the requisite modules for those interested in the administrative side of the game, there are several generic modules in our catalogue to support basketball administrators and board members.
They cover what effective governance looks, protecting against competition manipulation and inclusion and understanding what discrimination looks like in the current environment and tools to guard against discrimination.
For those interested in upskilling themselves with anything previously mentioned, the process is the same! Head over to Sport Tutor, register and then login. From there you need to click on ‘Search Learning’ then go to ‘BBNZ Catalogue’ where you’ll find the BBNZ online modules.
