Brittney Young had a stellar year in 2022 both at a local level and on the national stage. She is one of Basketball Otago’s stand out referees and had the distinction of being appointed the 2022 Men’s Club Final.
Nationally, she has had a successful year attending three pinnacle tournaments and achieving play-off games and finals at these events:
– Women’s Bronze Medal Match at the AON Under 19 National Championships
– Men’s Grand Final Match at the Tertiary National Championships
– ‘AA’ Girls Grand Final Match at the Secondary School National Championships
Whilst balancing a full-time job and her referee commitments, she is currently one of Otago’s statisticians volunteering her time for the Otago Nuggets doing stats for the Sal’s NBL and the Tauihi Leagues.
Her citation reads:
“Brittney always makes time to give back to the association by refereeing a lot of our competitions and when asked and needed, help with either stats or score bench. She is an all-rounder and a huge asset to the Otago basketball community. Brittney is an official who many of our young female officials look up to. We are looking forward to seeing her future progress and development”.
Brittney’s performances last year have earned her a spot as one of two new officials selected for the National Leagues Panel in 2023.
Brittney Young is a deserved recipient of the Basketball New Zealand Young Official of the Year award.
