Dr Taku Parai | Ngāti Toa

Born and raised in Takapūwāhia, Porirua, Dr Parai has always had a great love for the game of basketball. Dr Parai contributed to the early advancement of the game either through playing, administration or coaching. He coached a talented Mana College team between 1986 and 1988, coming third at the Rotorua nationals in 1987. Educated at Ngāti Toa Primary School, Mana College and Victoria University, he is currently employed as the Director Māori Health for Tu Ora Compass Health, Chairman of Te Runanga o Ngāti Toa Rangatira, President of the Northern United Rugby Club, Chairman Māori Basketball, Co-Chair of Māori and Pacific Trade Training and Iwi Liaison Whitireia Polytech.

Dr Parai thoroughly enjoys his role at BBNZ. Introducing and nurturing critical Māori values and tikanga into the fabric of BBNZ is important for both teams and administrators.
