Tony Eldershaw (New Plymouth) | 2022

Tony Eldershaw has been involved in basketball over many years initially as a player before taking up refereeing eventually progressing to the NBL for a period of time.Tony has spent countless hours over the past 10 years working with, and supporting referees in the associations across Taranaki. Many young referees in the region owe Tony a token of gratitude for his support.

2022 was a particularly busy year for Tony for his contribution to the game including:

  • Technical Commissioner at the U17 National Championships and Secondary Schools Junior Tournament.
  • NBL Referee Educator
  • President of New Plymouth Basketball Association
  • Referee Educator for New Plymouth Basketball Association  and Basketball Pacific.
  • Coach of New Plymouth Girls High School Senior A and Year 9 teams where both his daughters play.

Late in 2022 Tony received the Sport Taranaki Volunteer of the Year Award. This award recognised Tony’s significant contribution to the game which is better off because of his involvement.
