Boomers title-hopes run through the road least desired

The Melbourne Boomers will have to do it the hard way if they are to win the Australian Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) title.

The Boomers of course have five Tall Ferns in their lineup – Stella Beck, Penina Davidson, Toni Farnworth, Ashleigh Karaitiana and Kalani Purcell. The quintet, along with Head Coach Guy Molloy who is also the Tall Ferns Coach, are keen for fans this side of the Tasman to show their support and get behind the Boomers who could be tasked with playing three games in five days.

After going down 70-64 at Townsville Fire in the final regular season game on Sunday, the Boomers finished fourth on the ladder. This means to secure a championship the Boomers will have to win three straight playoff games between today and Sunday.

They are taking on defending champions the Canberra Capitals in the elimination semi-final tonight at 8:00pm (NZ Time). Win that and it’s on to face the loser of the qualifying semi-final between the Townsville Fire and Southside Flyers on Friday – 9:00pm (NZ Time).

The Grand Final is set down for Sunday December 20 at 4:30pm (NZ time). All of the finals fixtures are being played at Townsville Stadium.
