CALLING FOR TALL FERNS AND TALL BLACKS BOX SCORES

Have you filed any old box scores?

Basketball New Zealand is seeking historical records to put the final touches to a list detailing the Tall Ferns and Tall Blacks histories.

After commissioning a piece of work to research and log box scores of the two national teams, Basketball New Zealand is close to releasing a list of New Zealand’s basketball players and how many New Zealand games each has completed in.

Until now, New Zealand basketball’s history has mostly been the stuff of folklore and storytelling, but adding some hard data to that is key.

BBNZ has been working with Tony O’Connor who has diligently researched what is available. While there is knowledge about which players make up certain teams, which games were played and what the result might have been, many boxscores are not available to clarify if they took the court. BBNZ is asking if anyone has boxscores filed away for games that are currently missing.

With people currently in lockdown, this might be a good time to search through those old records.

If you have any of the following boxscores, or even older versions, please email a copy to tonyonz71@hotmail.com and editor@nz.basketball

BBNZ hope to publicly release the data in the coming months.

TALL FERNS

BBNZ currently has 44% of Tall Ferns box scores between 1988 through to now. The search is especially on for box scores prior to 2015, plus missing box scores for 2016, 2018.
