Basketball New Zealand will be hosting the FIBA U15 Oceania Cup at Eventfinda Stadium on the North Shore of Tāmaki Makaurau this year.
The tournament, supported by Auckland Council Events, will run for one week, with action tipping off on November 30th and culminating in the finals on Saturday, December 5th.
16 teams (eight girls and eight boys) made up of the best U15 players from across the Oceania region will compete over the week for a spot at the 2027 FIBA U16 Asia Cup, which will take place in Jordan.
Basketball New Zealand’s Chief Executive, Belinda Edwards, knows how exciting this opportunity is for Basketball in our country: “We’re incredibly excited to be hosting this year’s 2026 FIBA U15 Oceania Cup on Aotearoa’s shores. It’s been a while since New Zealand last hosted a FIBA tournament like this, but we can’t wait to welcome our brothers and sisters from across Oceania to Tāmaki Makaurau.”
This will be the first time in 11 years that a FIBA event will be hosted in Aotearoa, an incredibly exciting time and opportunity for basketball fans in Aotearoa to witness Oceania’s brightest young stars and future world-stage contenders in action.
The last time Aotearoa hosted a FIBA event was the Women’s Pre-Olympic Qualifiers in 2019, where the Tall Ferns hosted Korea, China and the Philippines at a four-team tournament at West Auckland’s Trusts Arena. Back in 2015, Wellington welcomed three U16 Oceania Cup teams (Australia, Tahiti, New Caledonia) for the U16 Oceania Cup. This upcoming FIBA U15 Oceania Cup will be the first time in over five years that Aotearoa will host an FIBA tournament.
Tātaki Auckland Unlimited Head of Major Events, Cheyne Stevens, said, “We’re proud to support the FIBA U15 Oceania Cup through Auckland Council Events and welcome this international basketball tournament back to Tāmaki Makaurau. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Auckland as an events destination, while inspiring the next generation of basketball talent and fans.”
Entry into the FIBA U15 Oceania Cup is free all week long. Bring your friends, bring your whānau – and bring the mana! You won’t want to miss this must-see basketball spectacle right here on our soil.
