NBL Classic Match #1: 1990 NBL Grand Final | Nelson Giants vs. Canterbury Rams
The NBL’s first all-South Island Grand Final lived up to expectations in a gripping tussle which ultimately saw Keith Mair’s Canterbury Rams prevail. Kenny Perkins and Graham Timms scored 16 apiece with Tall Blacks skipper Glen Denham adding another 15. The win ensured back-to-back titles for the first time for the Rams.
Whilst the Giants lost in the decider, they did receive post-season plaudits with Kenny Stone and Nenad Vucinic both securing spots in the all-star five. Giants coach Matt Ruscoe capped off a fine year picking up Coach of the Year honours.
