New Zealand’s 3×3 teams at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games are through to the play-offs following successful pool play campaigns.
The New Zealand 3×3 Women have gone through pool play undefeated, following big wins in their opening day against Papua New Guinea (22-6) and Tonga (21-8), before a closer encounter with England (21-12) to round out day one of action at the SEC Centre.
With three wins already under the belt, the New Zealand 3×3 Women were in the box seat to finish top of their pool heading into their fourth and fifth matches of the Games.
They would put away the host nation, Scotland (21-12) before defeating Singapore (22-16) in what was undoubtedly their toughest task of Glasgow so far.
Their 5-0 undefeated run, sees them head straight through to the Commonwealth Games semi-finals which is set for July 30, 12:30am (NZT). There they’ll play the winner of the Uganda v Tonga play-in match for a spot in the gold medal match.
Each of the players in the New Zealand quartet have contributed mightily over the course of the Glasgow Games so far, Ella Fotu impressing from beyond the arc, whilst Sharne Pupuke-Robati has accumulated several double digit scoring outings.
The New Zealand 3×3 Men will need to win an additional play-in game against Singapore tomorrow morning (4:30am NZT), before advancing for their chance to head through to the medal matches.
Following an opening game loss to reigning Commonwealth champions, Australia (15-21), the New Zealand 3×3 Men re-gathered themselves to finish off pool play with a 4-1 record.
The loss at the start of Day 1 was quickly forgotten, as they ran Guyana out of the gym (21-3) and followed that up with another big win over Nigeria (21-10). Strong Day 2 wins over the Cayman Islands (21-9) and Scotland (21-13) saw them secure their spot in the play-offs.
As we know, this group is well settled and after their opening game loss to Australia they’ve looked incredibly dangerous. Of particular note, Josh Book has been on absolute fire from outside including an outrageous 9/11 from outside the arc on Day 2.
Should the New Zealand 3×3 Men win tomorrow morning’s game against Singapore, their semi-final will take place tomorrow night at 10:30pm (NZT).
